Privacy Policy

DishPins helps you find the best dish near you, rated by the people who ate it. This policy explains what information the DishPins app and this website collect, how we use it, who helps us handle it, and the choices you have. The short version: we only collect what the app needs to work, we never show ads, we never track you across other apps or websites, and we never sell your data.

Your account

To create an account you can use an email address and password, Sign in with Apple, or Sign in with Google.

  • Email and password: we keep your email address. Your password is stored by our account provider in a scrambled form that nobody, including us, can read.
  • Sign in with Apple: Apple shares your email address with us (or a private relay address, if you choose Hide My Email) and, if you allow it, your name.
  • Sign in with Google: Google shares your name and email address with us.

Your profile

Your profile can include a display name, a profile photo, a short bio, a location you type in yourself (such as a city), and links to your accounts on other social networks. Everything on your profile is optional apart from your display name, and you can change or remove it at any time in the app.

Reviews and dish posts

When you post a review we store the dish name, the restaurant you choose, your star rating, the price you paid if you add it, your photo, your written take if you add one, and when you posted it. Your reviews and photos are shown to other people using DishPins, together with your display name and profile photo.

Location

  • Your device's location: if you allow it, the app uses your location to show dishes and restaurants near you and how far away they are. It is sent to our servers to run that search, and it is not saved to your profile or to your reviews. You can turn location off at any time in your device settings, and the app still works.
  • Location in your photos: when you choose a photo to post, the app reads the location stored inside the photo (if there is one) on your phone, and uses it to suggest the restaurant where the photo was taken. The photo we upload is saved without that location information.
  • Restaurant locations: a restaurant's name, address and position come from Apple Maps, not from you.

What you do in the app

We store the activity that makes DishPins work: the votes you give reviews, the people you follow, the reviews you save, the collections you make (and whether each one is public or private), the collections from other people that you save, and the notifications inside the app that tell you about follows and votes.

Reports and blocks

If you report a review, photo or person, we store what you reported, the reason you gave, and that it came from you, so we can review it. If you block someone, we store that so their content stays hidden from you and they cannot interact with you. The person you report or block is never told it was you.

Searches

When you search for a dish or a restaurant, what you type and the area you are searching are sent to our servers to find results, and restaurant searches are passed on to Apple Maps. We also keep a small log of some restaurant searches, linked to your account, to help us improve how restaurants are found.

Push notifications

DishPins does not send push notifications today. If we add them, we will only ask once you choose to turn them on, and we will store a token that lets us deliver notifications to your device. That token would be used for nothing else, and it would be removed when you turn notifications off or delete your account.

How we use your information

  • To run your account and sign you in.
  • To show your profile, reviews, photos and collections to the people you share them with.
  • To rank dishes and reviews, and to find dishes and restaurants near you.
  • To keep DishPins safe: reviewing reports, removing content that breaks our rules, and stopping abuse.
  • To send you emails about your account, such as sign in codes, password resets and email changes.
  • To answer you when you contact support.

We do not use your information for anything else.

What we never do

  • No advertising. DishPins shows no ads, and we do not use your information for advertising of any kind.
  • No tracking. We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and we do not use advertising or analytics trackers in the app or on this website.
  • No selling. We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers.

Services that handle data for us

We use a few trusted companies to run DishPins. They handle your information only to provide their service to us, not for their own purposes.

  • Supabase stores your account, profile, reviews, photos and activity, and runs the servers the app talks to.
  • Apple provides Sign in with Apple, the maps and restaurant search behind DishPins (Apple Maps), and the App Store, which delivers the app to you.
  • Google provides Sign in with Google, if you use it.
  • Resend delivers the emails about your account, such as sign in codes and password resets, that Supabase sends for us.
  • Cloudflare hosts this website.

We may also share information if the law requires it, or if it is needed to protect the safety of people using DishPins.

How long we keep your information

We keep your account information, reviews, photos and activity for as long as your account exists, so the app works the way you left it. You can delete any review, photo or collection yourself at any time, and it is removed straight away. We do not keep backup copies, so once something is deleted it is gone for good.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time in the app, in Settings, by tapping Delete account. This permanently removes, straight away:

  • Your account, email address and sign in details.
  • Your profile, including your name, profile photo, bio, location and social links.
  • All of your reviews and photos.
  • The votes you gave, and the votes on your reviews.
  • Your follows, your saved reviews, your collections, and the collections you saved.
  • Your notifications, your blocks, the reports you made, and the reports made about you or your reviews.
  • The log of restaurant searches linked to your account.

Restaurants you were the first to add stay in DishPins as a place for everyone, without any link to you. We do not keep backup copies, so nothing deleted can be brought back. Deleting your account cannot be undone.

Your rights

You can see and change most of your information directly in the app. You can also ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing support@dishpins.com. We will answer within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under your local privacy laws, and we will honor them.

Children

You must be at least 13 years old to use DishPins. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, please email support@dishpins.com and we will delete it.

Keeping your information safe

Your information is sent over encrypted connections and stored with access controls, so people can only reach what they are allowed to. No service can promise perfect security, but we work to protect your information and only collect what we need.

This website

This website does not use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers, and it does not ask you for any personal information. Like any website, the company that hosts it (Cloudflare) records basic technical information about each visit, such as your IP address and browser, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app before it takes effect.
